Public Strategies was contracted through the Oklahoma Governor’s Office to promote, produce and manage eight annual Safe Schools Summits, a statewide youth character development event for approximately 10,000 middle and high school students. The goal of the summit was to raise awareness among teenagers about the importance of making positive decisions and understanding the consequences of negative behaviors such as drug and alcohol use.

To ensure that the event themes, speakers, materials and exhibits met the needs of the attendees, PSI collaborated with a variety of stakeholders, including representatives from the Oklahoma departments of education, health, public safety, and mental health and substance abuse services; police, fire and other emergency services providers; youth and social services agencies; hospitals; and universities. Additionally, celebrity emcees such as Bill Cosby and Colin Hanks contributed to the high-energy, motivational events.

Between 2000 and 2008, more than 75,000 people attended a Safe Schools Summit and event evaluations indicated that the majority of attendees found the event to be worthwhile and informative. In conjunction with the eighth-annual Summit, Public Strategies provided a Prevention Conference for adults in order to help schools implement positive action plans in their communities.
